Meta fires workers who spent meal credits on wine glasses, acne pads: report

Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, has fired about 20 staffers in Los Angeles after they were accused of abusing $25 a day meal benefits to stock up on household items such as wine glasses, acne pads and laundry detergent. It is reported that.

The laid-off workers were found to have been abusing a long-term meal credit program intended for workers who stay late at the office or work in offices without a kitchen. The Financial Times reportedsaid a person familiar with the matter.

The layoffs are part of a broader restructuring at Mark Zuckerberg's social media giant, which began cutting jobs across multiple business segments on Tuesday, including teams at Instagram, WhatsApp and Reality Labs.

The employee who was fired for cheating on the meal program was reported last week.

Some meta staff complained about the crackdown on blinds. The app verifies that users work for the companies they claim to work for, but allows them to remain anonymous.

“On days when I don't eat at the office, like when my husband is cooking or when I'm having dinner with friends, I don't think I should waste my dinner credit,” said one former Meta employee. I mentioned it in the post. By F.T.

The worker said his salary was $400,000 and he sometimes spent $25 to buy items from Rite Aid, a situation he described as “almost unrealistic.”

In some cases, employees abused perks by having meals delivered to their homes instead of at the office or by combining credits.

Other employees were warned for violating the policy but were not fired, the report said.

However, another Mehta employee was blind, claiming that the fired workers were “warned to quit and most of them did, but were still fired three months after quitting.”

“The warnings seem to be meaningless and more people will be laid off in the coming months. I understand the policies are strict, but this seems like a terrible thing to do.” wrote the employee.

Mehta did not comment specifically on the firings.

“Today, several Meta teams are making changes to ensure we align our resources with our long-term strategic goals and location strategy,” the company said in a statement.

“This includes moving some teams to different locations or moving some employees to different roles. In situations like this where roles are eliminated, “We are working hard to find alternative opportunities for our employees,” the company added.

The exact number of employees affected by the restructuring was not immediately clear.

Mr. Zuckerberg called last year a “year of efficiency” at the big tech company, cutting more than 21,000 jobs.

The cost-cutting move comes as Meta shifts more resources to artificial intelligence.
