Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg The company announced on Wednesday that its newest social media platform, Threads, has surpassed 175 million monthly active users (MAUs) as it nears its first anniversary.
“What a year it’s been,” Zuckerberg said in a post on a thread marking the user milestone. In February, Zuckerberg said the platform had surpassed 150 million MAUs, signaling the platform has been growing in recent months.
Meta is Facebook and Instagramdid not disclose other key metrics related to Threads usage, such as the number of daily active users of the platform or the average time each user spends on the app.
Threads was launched on July 5 last year as a competitor to X (formerly Twitter), at a time when Twitter was in the early stages of rebranding after its acquisition by an ownership group led by Elon Musk.

Zuckerberg said in fall 2023 that Threads’ total MAUs would be “just under 100 million,” and that the company aims to reach the 1 billion threshold within the next few years.

The platform also recently appeared on Fediverse, a group of social media sites that support the ActivityPub protocol and allow users to interact across platforms.
