Mets announcers have not been shy about talking about the team’s poor performance this season.
The Mets were leading 2-1 going into the ninth inning against the Giants on Saturday when Edwin Diaz blew a save, missing three consecutive save opportunities.
The Giants went on to win the game 7-2 in the 10th inning.
“Oh my God,” Keith Hernandez said during the top of the 10th inning on a PIX11 broadcast after the Giants went from 4-2 to 7-2 on a Mike Yastrzemski triple. “It’s like the sky is falling.”
Saturday’s loss marked the Mets’ fifth straight loss and seventh in eight games, dropping them to 21-30 and nine games below .500 on the season.
“It’s been like that almost every day for the last month,” Gary Cohen replied to Hernandez.
Then Ron Darling interjected.
“Ah, yes,” he said.
But that wasn’t the end of it.
“It seems like every game they say the same thing,” Cohen said. “Guys say we’re better, we’ve got to play better, we’ve got to just stay positive. … But how hard is it to stay positive when the roof is collapsing every day?”
“It’s a battle,” Darling responded. “Losing and what’s going on here are two different things. This is really heartbreaking.”
Cohen tried to offer some hope.

“Remember, the sun will rise tomorrow,” he said, “even if it’s hard to make happen.”
The players themselves were not afraid of losing.
“At the end of the day, we just haven’t executed at the right time and we haven’t won games,” Francisco Lindor said. “We’ve got to hurry up and start winning games.”
“We have to stay optimistic and work with each other. I know we’ll get through this. It’s just a matter of when. We’ve got to hurry up and start winning games. We’ve got to keep working and hustling and staying on the path.” [and] Try to get yourself out of this situation.”
