Mets’ Brooks Raley ‘not close’ to throwing with 2024 return in doubt

Brooks Lally has been out since April 19 with elbow inflammation, and his return won’t be immediate, but Carlos Mendoza says the left-hander will be evaluated by Dr. Keith Meister on Tuesday. .

The manager did not rule out the possibility of Lowry missing the rest of the season, adding that the left-hander is “not close” to resuming pitching, adding, “We want to make sure we haven’t missed anything before deciding on the next step. I’m going to see Dr. Meister,” he added. ”

Asked if the 35-year-old is at risk of missing the rest of the season, Mendoza said: “It’s too early to say.” I would like to take a closer look. ”

The paper’s Joel Sherman reported earlier this month that Reilly suffered “at least” a torn ligament and is trying to determine whether he can rehabilitate the injury and avoid surgery without risking a full-blown blowout. .

Mendoza said Larry won’t throw again until further testing is done, at which point a decision will be made to start throwing again or to find out “if there’s something there.”

Larry got off to a good start to the season, appearing in eight games and allowing only five baserunners in seven scoreless innings, with nine strikeouts.

The bullpen could have Drew Smith (shoulder) back soon, but he is scheduled to go out for rehab again Sunday with Triple-A Syracuse.

Mendoza said Smith “feels good physically” but is rushing through some mechanical work.

Kodai Chiga pitched in the bullpen at Citi Field on Friday as the right-hander, sidelined since spring with shoulder tightness, neared his season debut.

Coach Mendoza said Chiga and the team will decide what to do next if the bullpen reports no issues.

“He’s been working on his mechanics and trying to feel like himself in his mechanics,” Mendoza said. “Whether it’s raw blood pressure or the bullpen, we’ll see how he bounces back from this situation.” [session] Or if he’s ready for it. [minor league rehab] game. ”

Chiga is not eligible to come off the 60-day IL until May 27, and is not expected to return until at least early June.

Mendoza said he’s not thinking too far ahead about Chiga’s return.

“I’m still battling my shoulder, but I don’t know what’s going to happen,” Mendoza said. “He still has to overcome hurdles.”

Tyler Megill (shoulder) will begin rehabbing again Sunday at Triple-A Syracuse, Mendoza said.

It remains to be seen whether he will return to the rotation after that.

“It’s too early to say,” Mendoza said. “After Sunday and the next game we will see what situation we are in.” [the rotation]”

Adrian Hauser entered Friday, still looking to make his first appearance, after being removed from the rotation.

The Mets will now decide how to best utilize their staff, as they could use a six-man rotation as they play 13 games in 13 days.

Tomas Nido returned to action on Friday, receiving the majority of at-bat time ahead of Omar Narváez, who has only started once since May 2.

“Nido is playing well and will get more chances,” Mendoza said. “Narváez will continue to be an important part of our team.”

Mendoza added that it will depend somewhat on the matchup.
