Mets hope to strengthen injury filled bullpen depth with Ty Adcock

The Mets added some new pitchers on Thursday to a bullpen that has been particularly hard hit by injuries.

The Mets acquired designated pick Ty Adcock from the Tigers, optioning the right-hand pitcher to Triple-A Syracuse.

Adcock, 27, made his Mariners debut last year, allowing six earned runs (3.45 ERA) in 15 2/3 innings while throwing only a four-seam fastball and a slider.

The North Carolina native has been DFA’d twice this season, first by the Mariners and then the Tigers, and has given up eight runs, struck out 11 and walked six in 8 1/3 total innings at Triple-A this year.

Adok is expected to be a reinforcement for a team that has lost many players.

Left-hander Brooks Raley and Triple-A top left-hander Nate Lavender are both out for the season due to surgery.

Right-handed pitcher Shintaro Fujinami, who had hoped to improve his control and one day be promoted, is on the disabled list with a right shoulder injury, but as of last week the Mets did not believe he would need surgery.

Kyle Click and Andre Scrubb, who could eventually be options, are also on Syracuse’s injured list.
