Jeffrey Yan’s Celebration Lights Up Mets Game

Fans of the New York Mets are buzzing about Jeffrey Yan’s energetic celebration after he struck out a batter during a recent game. It was such a moment that it took social media by storm.

In a thrilling Saturday afternoon match against the Washington Nationals at Citi Field, Yan’s excitement peaked during a walk-off win. He displayed a noteworthy celebratory act, even as he realized that the pitch he thought was strike three wasn’t called that way.

Yan had made his debut at Citi Field, and in the tense top of the ninth inning, he thought he had struck out Nassim Nunez with a perfectly placed fastball. Yet, the home plate umpire disagreed. Nevertheless, the excitement seemed to carry him away, as he leaped into the air to start celebrating, only to land back and acknowledge that the call had gone the other way.

With a quick tap of his cap, he sought to challenge the call, leading to an ABS review. Unfortunately, the decision stood, but that didn’t diminish the mood. Gary Cohen, a veteran Mets announcer, commented on the situation with a chuckle, saying, “Well, that was funny.” After a brief moment of laughter, Yan quickly collected himself and, just two pitches later, struck out Nunez with a slider, definitely giving the celebration some validation.

At the time of Yan’s strikeout, the Mets were behind by one run in the bottom of the ninth. They needed a score to tie but aimed to win outright. Brett Batty began the inning with a walk, creating a spark, and Jorge Polanco brought the go-ahead run onto the base paths. Francisco Alvarez then hit a double, which allowed Batty to cross home plate and even the score.

Francisco Lindor later placed the winning run in the ninth, sending the fans at Citi Field, including Yan and his teammates, into jubilation. In this outing, Yan pitched 1.2 scoreless innings and celebrated his first MLB career win.

At 29, Yan is a rookie who has shown promise, especially during his time in the minors, where his unique post-strikeout celebration became a talking point. Now that he’s in the big leagues, fans get to enjoy his signature moves, and it seems he relishes sharing those moments with the local crowd.

Yan expressed his gratitude after the game, noting, “I felt really welcomed today,” through an interpreter. He struck out three batters during the match, boasting a solid 1.80 ERA thus far.
