Recently, the New York Mets entered the conversation on social media, poking fun at Washington Commanders’ star quarterback. Earlier this month, Daniels sent a cease-and-desist letter to his former college, LSU, concerning the use of his name, image, and likeness.

After a 4-1 win against the Washington Nationals—who share the DMV area with the Commanders—the Mets jokingly referenced Daniels. It was all in good fun, they remarked, “In honor of Jaden Daniels, we stopped it at 4.”

Daniels, who took home the Heisman Trophy at LSU in 2023, has had some concerns about the situation. Reportedly, he and his camp felt it was inappropriate for head coach Lane Kiffin to allow DJ Pickett to don the No. 5 jersey. On Thursday, Daniels took to social media to address the matter.

He expressed gratitude for his time at LSU and pride in what he and his teammates achieved. However, he acknowledged the need for the issues to be handled privately, stating, “Obviously, there are issues that need to be resolved between my team and LSU.”

Despite the tension, he’s attempting to keep the focus on what he loves—football. “My only personal focus is coach football,” he mentioned, adding that he believes any complications can be addressed appropriately.

Although Daniels is trying to keep things calm, social media has been relentless, tracking his every move like a defensive pass rush. Ticketing service StubHub even announced on X that it would refrain from selling tickets in groups of five as a nod to the ongoing situation with Daniels.

As he prepares for the upcoming season, Daniels likely hopes that the only pressure he faces will come from the field, not social media.
