HOUSTON – Paul Blackburn doesn't expect to stay on the Mets' injured list for more than a pitcher's minimum of 15 days.
Right-handed people are scheduled to resume their Sunday throwing seven days after receiving a gel injection in their right knee.
Blackburn had swelling in his knee following his last spring training appearance last Saturday.
“Everything we've returned from that is good news and everything is going very well,” Blackburn said Friday before the Mets went 3-1 against the Astros at Daikin Park. “Now I'm just waiting seven days to spin it again.”
Blackburn was set to start bullpen seasons in multiple roles.
His IL stint allowed Max Kranick and Haskar Brazovan to open the season on the Major League roster. The two were competing for one spot before Blackburn's injury.
Blackburn described the disease as “a bit of cartilage that appears to be a bit offended.”
Team Brass is considering Blackburn in the starting role as the Mets move into a six-man rotation, perhaps moving on to the next road trip.
Blackburn had surgery in his last offseason to repair his cerebrospinal fluid leak, but began spring training on time.
Tyrone Taylor (0-for-4) started in his second straight game at center field with Joseciri on the bench.
Manager Carlos Mendoza cited the weapons of right-handed Hunter Brown and his pitching moves, who wants to start Taylor again.
