Mets’ Pete Alonso excited to reunite with college teammate Harrison Bader

It feels so good to be reunited.

The lyrics to the popular song “Peaches & Herbs” were released Thursday after Pete Alonso and Harrison Bader signed a one-year, $10.5 million contract with the Mets, becoming former Florida Gators teammates once again. It might be the perfect sentiment for Harrison Bader.

In an Instagram post, the 29-year-old posted two photos of Bader and Alonso, his University of Florida teammates, and expressed his excitement to play with Bader again.

“The Diesel Brothers are back!!!” Welcome to Orange and Blue! #LFGM,” Alonso captioned the post.

Bader shared an MLB post on his Instagram Story about his excitement for Alonso.

The two played together for Florida from 2014 to 2015, helping lead the Gators to the College World Series in the second half of the season.

For his efforts, Bader hit .358 with Omaha and was named to the 2015 All-Tournament Team.

After Bader left to join the Cardinals, Alonso helped lead Florida back to the College World Series in 2016.

Aside from the two UF reunions and Alonso's overall excitement, the 29-year-old Bader has helped improve the Mets' defense.

Last season, Bader had an above-average nine outs. According to Baseball Savantranked seventh among eligible outfielders.

In 2021, he won a Gold Glove Award with the Cardinals.

This will be Bader's second go-around play in the Big Apple.

He appeared in 107 games, including the playoffs, during his two years with the Yankees, but struggled to stay healthy.

He missed his time in the Bronx with plantar fasciitis, a torn oblique muscle and a torn hamstring.

Bader was placed on waivers in late August and claimed by the Reds.

The Bronxville native has previously gushed about being able to play in his hometown after being acquired by the Yankees in a trade with the Cardinals in 2022 for Jordan Montgomery.

“It means a lot to me as a kid from New York City to play in the Bronx for the Yankees,” an emotional Bader told reporters on the day he was acquired by the Reds. ”

Now back in New York, Bader attended Thursday's game between the Rangers and the Blackhawks at Madison Square Garden and quickly settled in.
