Mets survive late Yankees’ rally to win Subway Series opener

The Mets removed two key players from their active roster on Tuesday and then added some new faces to a team that has recently shown explosive offense.

Just to add to this, they took on their city rivals and their ace.

Either Gerrit Cole is still in bad shape or the Mets are just swinging the ball well. Probably both.

The Mets got four home runs in four innings off the star right-hander and beat the Yankees 9-7 in front of a sellout crowd of 42,824 at Citi Field.

The incident came on the day Edwin Diaz was ejected Sunday for violating MLB’s foreign object rules and began serving a 10-game suspension.

Another key Mets player, Starling Marte, was placed on the disabled list with a deep bone bruise in his right knee.

The Mets won for the 14th time in 18 games, securing their eighth straight unbeaten series since being swept by the Dodgers last month.

The struggling Yankees lost for the eighth time in 11 games.
