The Mets plan to wait to see if Kodai Senga is healthy, but the rehabbing ace could be rescheduled for his next minor league appearance and pitch on the standard four-day rest period.
Over the past year and a half, the Mets have given Senga as many days of rest between starts as possible, similar to how he was used in Japan.
He started for Triple-A Syracuse on Tuesday after five days of rest.
But with both major and minor league teams off starting Monday for the All-Star Game, the Mets are considering having Senga pitch on Sunday on a more traditional four-day rest period.
“That’s still up in the air,” manager Carlos Mendoza said Wednesday before the Mets beat the Nationals, 6-2, at Citi Field. [Thursday]At the end of the day, [we’ll know].”
Senga threw 52 pitches but lasted just 2 2/3 innings on Tuesday in his first start at Syracuse and just his second career rehab appearance.
He’ll likely need a few starts before he’s an option to debut in 2024.
The minor league season will be on hiatus after Sunday’s game and will not continue until the following Friday.
Senga, who is trying to return from a right shoulder capsule strain and triceps strain, could instead pitch in a mock game on Monday if he is unable to pitch on four days’ rest.

Mets’ new relief pitcher Phil Mutton Third base coach Mike Servoe said he’s worn the number 88 for many years. Switch to number 86.
Maton is in his eighth season but is trying to remember his time as a rookie with the Padres.
“When you’re an unknown prospect, that’s the only number you’re given when you’re drafted,” Mutton said of the number.
Jake Diekman came to the mound in the seventh inning with one out and one runner on base, striking out both batters he faced and making his 700th career appearance.
“It’s not easy,” Mendoza said of the 37-year-old Diekman, who is in his 13th season. “I’m proud that he’s been able to do it this long. … His influence in the locker room is tremendous.”
Tyrone Taylor, who hit an RBI triple in the eighth inning, became the first Mets player since Brandon Nimmo to hit triples in consecutive games. Last season, May 25th-26th.
Mark Vientos, who hit a game-tying RBI double in the sixth inning, now has eight RBIs in his past seven home games.
Edwin’s son, 8-year-old left-handed pitcher Jahel Diaz, threw the ceremonial first pitch to his father.
