Mexican authorities have arrested three men on murder charges for their involvement in an incident in which a vigilante group set fire to four men from an extortion group. During the arrest, several other neighbors attempted to intervene and a brief gunfight with authorities began, ending with the arrests of more than a dozen people.
The latest incident occurred early Monday morning when investigators from the Mexican State Attorney General's Office (FGJEdoMex) raided some homes in the community of Jebusibi. Authorities had issued three arrest warrants for two men and a woman on suspicion of murder. The police force soon came under fire from neighbors, according to information provided to Breitbart Texas by FGJEdoMex.
After a brief confrontation, authorities arrested seven people who tried to stop the initial raid. According to OEM news agency, the arrests come after more than 300 neighborhood residents formed a vigilante group and began assaulting four men who were demanding weekly wages from local shop owners. It is said to be related to the incident on May 17th. reported. The group was reportedly linked to the Familia Michoacán cartel. Their local leaders were called clowns or payasos.
Despite the arrival of authorities, the mob killed four people and set fire to the area before police dispersed the group.
According to FGJEdoMex investigators, the four victims of the mob attack were part of an extortion ring with the help of local taxi drivers. In connection with this separate but related investigation, authorities reported the arrest of six suspects on extortion charges.
