Mexican Cops Rescue Migrants Drowning in Texas Border River

Mexican authorities have rescued a group of migrants who had been abandoned by human traffickers in the waters of the Rio Grande near Eagle Pass, Texas.

The incident occurred Monday morning in Piedras Negras, Coahuila, just south of Eagle Pass, after agents from Mexico’s National Migration Institute’s Beta Group rushed to search for a group of migrants stranded in the river.

Mexican rescue teams used boats to intercept the migrants and transport them to safety on the south side of the river, where they had reportedly been abandoned by a local trafficking ring that was trying to transport them to the Texas side of the Rio Grande.

The rescue came a day after another migrant drowned while crossing the river after Texas authorities found a body floating downstream near Shelby Park. U.S. authorities recovered the unidentified body. Also on Sunday, Texas authorities found the body of another migrant who appeared to have died from exposure to high temperatures. The death occurred in a brush pile near the town of Quemado. That body also has not been identified.

A law enforcement source in the state of Coahuila confirmed to Breitbart Texas that there are currently 12 human trafficking rings operating in the city of Piedras Negras.

Editor’s note: Breitbart Texas traveled to Mexico City, Tamaulipas, Coahuila and Nuevo Leon to recruit citizen journalists willing to risk their lives to expose the cartels that are silencing their communities. If they did not use pseudonyms, the reporters would surely face death at the hands of the various cartels operating in these regions, including the Gulf Cartel and Los Zetas.
