Mexican gang member captured after 2 dozen prior arrests for illegally entering US

Border Patrol this week arrested a member of a Mexican illegal immigrant gang with 20 prior arrests for illegally entering the country. This is indicative of the many challenges Border Patrol faces at the southern border and the threat posed by people attempting to enter the country.

Border Patrol Chief Jason Owens announced that agents in Laredo, Texas, have arrested a Mexican national who is a member of the Tango Blast gang.

Owens said he has been arrested 24 times for illegal entry using multiple names and dates of birth.

Recidivism, in which illegal immigrants attempt to re-enter the country after being removed or deported, is a regular problem at the southern border.

After Title 42 ended last year, the Biden administration has been working to prevent recidivism by toughening penalties for illegal entry. But it also attacks a law signed by Texas Governor Greg Abbott that makes illegal immigration a state crime and gives police the power to arrest illegal immigrants.
