“The highest number of deportations from the US to Mexico occurred during Bill Clinton’s presidency from 1993 to 2001,” she noted. “In the year 2000, a total of 1,150,906 Mexicans were deported.”

She then referenced President Barack Obama’s administration, which saw 601,356 Mexicans deported in just his first year, whereas during Trump’s second term, the number dropped to 86,017.

“It’s important to mention that the number of immigrants has decreased significantly,” she remarked. “Following President Trump’s decision to impose restrictions, there’s been a noticeable reduction in migrants from Mexico and other countries.”

This discussion arose after a journalist inquired about the number of Mexican citizens currently in US detention facilities.

Shainbaum’s remarks seem to illustrate a change in narrative among Mexican leaders, who were vocal critics before Trump’s presidency. As highlighted by Breitbart Texas, she generated controversy in June when she and her administration condemned attacks on migrants.

“We do not condone using raids to detain individuals who are working honestly in the United States,” she stated at that time.

Her criticism of US immigration practices, coupled with previous statements, has elicited a strong reaction from Homeland Security Secretary Christa Noem. Shainbaum’s comments have also contributed to escalating protests in California, where demonstrators targeted ICE agents, according to reports.
