Mexican President Considering Legal Action Against Elon Musk for Suggesting She Has Ties to Drug Cartels

Sheinbaum Considers Legal Action Against Musk

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has indicated that her government might pursue legal action against Elon Musk, an American businessman, due to remarks he made on social media. Musk allegedly suggested that Sheinbaum was under the influence of a cartel leader.

During a morning press conference, Sheinbaum mentioned that her legal team is looking into the matter but emphasized her commitment to public opinion over the views of business elites. She stated that she is currently analyzing the incident.

On Monday, Musk responded to a thread on X (formerly Twitter) in which someone questioned Sheinbaum’s integrity, saying, “She’s just saying what the cartel bosses told her to do. Let’s just say their punishment for insubordination is a little worse than a ‘performance improvement plan.’

The comment was originally triggered by an older video of Sheinbaum, where she asserted that direct confrontations with cartels violate the human rights of armed cartel members. Back in November 2025, she condemned the so-called drug war, arguing that the killing of drug traffickers is a fascist approach that infringes on their rights. Her remarks at the time drew considerable backlash.

This video gained traction again following the recent death of Ruben Nemesio “El Mencho” Oseguera Cervantes, the notorious leader of the Cartel Jalisco New Generation. After El Mencho’s passing, the cartel reportedly instigated a series of violent attacks throughout Mexico, causing widespread disruption across the nation.
