Michael Cohen pleas for Biden presidential pardon: ‘I’m somebody’s son also’

Michael Cohen, President Trump's former lawyer, is demanding that President Biden pardon him, just as he pardoned his son Hunter before President-elect Donald Trump took office.

Cohen spoke on MSNBC's “The Weekend” Saturday morning about his efforts to lobby the Biden administration for clemency. He argued that without a presidential pardon, he would continue to be “at risk” of prosecution by Trump.

Mr. Cohen argued that Mr. Biden had a duty to protect Mr. Biden and other critics from Mr. Trump, just as he protected his son Hunter.

“Yes, I applied for a presidential pardon because I believe Joe Biden has the same responsibility to me as he has to his own son,” Cohen said. “And I believe that the very same pardon that he granted his son must be granted to me and others on his enemy list whether they want it or not. I expect that, because I guarantee you that I spent 51 days in solitary confinement, which sucks. ”

MSNBC host Simone Sanders agreed with Cohen's concerns about being on Trump's “enemies list,” but disagreed with citing Hunter Biden in his case. There wasn't.

“So Hunter Biden is the last surviving son of the president,” Sanders said.

“By the way, I'm also someone's son,” Cohen replied.

“I agree. You're somebody's son,” Sanders said. “But just to be clear, you're not the president's son. And I think he pardoned Hunter primarily because it's his son.”

Cohen emphasized how important it is to take President Trump seriously as a threat.

“When Donald Trump turns around, you have to take him at his word,” Cohen said. “So far, everything he said he was going to do, he's actually going to do. And he's done it one by one. Now, as he said, everything is It may not happen on day one, but ultimately he will have four years to work with all the people who will hold government positions to help realize his goals. ”

Mr. Cohen served three years in prison for federal crimes, including tax evasion, campaign finance violations and lying to Congress, while working for Mr. Trump. He has since become a vocal critic of the president-elect, testifying against Trump in the Alvin Bragg criminal case in New York earlier this year.

Cohen also said in September that he plans to leave the country if Trump is re-elected.

“I'm already working on a foreign passport with a completely different name. I don't know what will happen with my wife and children. I certainly don't want them to move where I am.” I want to go,” Cohen said.

Biden was attacked by both sides for pardoning his son Hunter, despite insisting in December that he would not. Biden also said he was still considering preemptive pardons for some of Trump's political opponents, including former Republican Rep. Liz Cheney and Dr. Anthony Fauci, in the final weeks of his term.
