Michael Henry, the Republican candidate for New York’s attorney general, shared his views in a recent interview. He has been vocal about letting current Democratic attorney general, Letitia James, know that she should step down. According to Henry, the main concerns for New Yorkers are “crime and affordability.”
He elaborated that many residents are frustrated with the high cost of living and may not realize how much the attorney general’s office influences these issues. “She’s really hurt New York State’s economic growth,” he said, pointing fingers at James and her team for impeding progress.
He particularly highlighted rising energy costs and what he described as James’ “far-left policies.” Henry noted that a Democratic governor, Josh Shapiro, is encouraging New York energy companies to operate in Pennsylvania, while New York has untapped energy resources underground that could reduce costs significantly for residents.
“Letitia James is disrupting daily life for New Yorkers,” he added, indicating that many are unaware of the extent of the impact her policies are having on their livelihoods.
Despite having previously run against James in 2020 and securing a notable vote share, Henry said he wasn’t initially looking to run for office again. However, after assessing the situation, he felt the need to step up. He criticized the infrastructure in upstate New York, mentioning ineffective wind turbines and solar panels, and lamented the lost jobs for correctional officers that families depended on.
Henry stated a belief that New Yorkers should support an “outsider” candidate who is unafraid of James. “Honestly, her focus seems to be on attacking the president and her political rivals, while neglecting vital issues that affect working families,” he claimed.
When discussing crime, Henry accused James of not working collaboratively with local law enforcement, especially in more conservative areas. He reiterated that New Yorkers are fed up with crime issues.
James has been facing her own legal troubles, with accusations of mortgage fraud looming over her, which she has dismissed as politically motivated. Henry commented on her recent public appearances, suggesting they’ve been less than graceful and pointed to ethical concerns that have surfaced.
