Michael Moore Critiques U.S.-Iran Relations
Documentary filmmaker Michael Moore has issued a stark warning to President Donald Trump, suggesting that his actions could lead to the destruction of Iranian civilization before an upcoming cease-fire deadline.
In a Substack post titled “The Revelation is Here,” Moore criticized the president for allegedly threatening a Holocaust against the Iranian people. He pointed out the paradox of the United States— a nation with a history of violence, including the use of nuclear weapons— aligning with Israel, which he characterized as a relatively young country. Moore lamented that a nuclear-armed nation is potentially erasing one of the world’s oldest civilizations.
Throughout his commentary, Moore acknowledged Iran’s historical significance as an ancient civilization. While he does not endorse the current Iranian regime, he highlighted the nation’s cultural strength, emphasizing that it continues to produce talented filmmakers, despite stringent censorship. He placed some responsibility on the U.S. for its role in the 1953 CIA-led coup that ousted Prime Minister Mohammad Mossadegh, which, he argues, paved the way for the current Iranian government.
Moore’s ultimate assertion is that Iran doesn’t harbor hatred for the United States; rather, he believes the opposite is true. He expressed frustration over U.S. leaders and media repeatedly asking why Iran might “hate us,” arguing that the sentiment should be directed inward. “They don’t hate America! We hate them!” he exclaimed.
He continued, “We’re the bad guys! If we didn’t see it before, Donald Trump has revealed our true nature!”
On Tuesday, Iran agreed to a two-week ceasefire, which would allow access to the Strait of Hormuz. President Trump announced via Truth Social that Iran and the U.S. had reached this agreement just ahead of the deadline.
He reported, “Conversations with Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir led to a request to delay our deployment of a destruction force in Iran and to halt bombings and attacks for two weeks, contingent upon Iran’s agreement to safely open the Strait of Hormuz.”
Trump added that this would be a mutually beneficial ceasefire, noting that all military objectives had been met and that there is potential for long-term peace negotiations with Iran. He mentioned a 10-point proposal from Iran as a viable starting point for these discussions.
