Michael Moore Proposes a New Pledge of Allegiance

Filmmaker Michael Moore has introduced his take on the American Pledge of Allegiance, expressing that he has a better approach than the traditional one. He shared his new pledge on his social media account, suggesting he’s attempting to elevate discussions about the USA’s survival, even as he critiques existing ideas around it.

“For you. For me. For the sake of people and troubled nations, despite the chaos, we’ve chosen to advocate for survival and hold onto the belief that improvement is possible. Here’s to ending the madness and fostering a genuine democracy,” Moore proclaimed.

Moore argues that his loyalty should be directed towards the “people of America” instead of the nation as a whole. His focus seems less on the United States specifically and more on a universal concept of “one world.”

The revised pledge he crafted reads:

I pledge my loyalty to the people of the United States. And to the democracy where we all stand: one person, one vote, one country, one part of the world, everyone! Table seating! Everyone! Sliced pie! The pursuit of freedom and justice, equality, kindness, and happiness for all.

Following the rollout of his pledge, Moore encouraged his supporters to take political action, inspired by the sentiments he expressed. He noted, “Our minds don’t wander for long without creating a beat. Our lungs don’t hesitate in inhaling for more than a few seconds.”

Although he presents this pledge as a new act of loyalty, Moore’s understanding—or perhaps misunderstanding—of America is evident. He suggests that America has never truly been “democratic,” which is a contentious viewpoint.

Additionally, his praise for “the people” seems to contrast with his earlier criticism. After Donald Trump’s election, Moore labeled Americans as “not good people” and declared that the country had some serious issues to address.
