Michael Reagan Says Today’s Politics Could Benefit Greatly from His Father’s Principle

Former President Ronald Reagan's son says embracing his father's principles could greatly improve politics today. Michael Regan is a columnist and author who heads the Regan Legacy Foundation and travels around the world discussing his father's influence. He said one of the principles that today's world could benefit from is bipartisanship. new movie reagan, He added that it expressed the true friendship between Republican President Reagan and Democratic House Speaker Tip O'Neill. The film is currently available on video on demand, with Blu-ray and DVD versions being released on November 19th.

Michael Regan told Crosswalk, “It was important to bring that into the movie and think about today and the world we live in.”

“And here are two people who disagree politically. [There is a] The best moment was when my father said, “We'll be friends after 5 o'clock.'' ”

The film's seminal moment depicts O'Neal at President Reagan's hospital bedside hours after he survived an assassination attempt. It happened in real life too.

President Michael Regan said, “Tip O'Neill is sitting in a chair with a rosary in his hand, praying for and with his father.'' “You say, 'Would that happen in this day and age?' And unfortunately, I don't think so, and that's what's really sad about the fact that we don't do these things. We don't, we don't find a way to reach out to each other, and that's the truth.

O'Neill's Democratic House of Representatives worked with Reagan to pass what was then the largest tax cut in American history.

“So you wonder, can we go back to those days? And I don't know if we really can go back to those days, but I live in the moment and look at the moment, I was able to understand that. I shared it with my kids, and they'll share it with their kids,” Michael Regan said.

President Reagan also took responsibility for his actions, his son said.

“What happens is we get in trouble because we hide instead of being open.” [in today’s world]. And the Iran-Contra that was portrayed in the movie ended when my father took charge of Iran-Contra,” Michael Regan said. We don't do that. …This is another great lesson. Please take responsibility for your actions. ”

He said the third lesson from former President Michael Reagan is to stand firm in your beliefs. His father famously wrote a pro-life book while in office; Abortion and the national conscience.

“Know what you believe and why you believe it,” said Michael Regan. “So many people believe it today because polls and surveys say they believe it. And my father believed it because he actually believed it. Because I actually read the book in the library…Stand strong for your beliefs and I think it's very important to know who you are and what you are. .”
