Michael Reagan Passes Away at 80
Michael Reagan, the eldest son of former President Ronald Reagan and actress Jane Wyman, passed away on Sunday at his home in Los Angeles, as announced by a foundation dedicated to his father.
Known for being an outspoken advocate of conservative values, he worked as an author and radio talk show host, striving to keep his father’s legacy alive.
Throughout his public career, he defended the principles of the Reagan administration, focusing on reducing government involvement in daily life and navigating the end of the Cold War.
The Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation noted, “Michael Reagan lived a life defined by faith, purpose, and an abiding dedication to President Reagan’s ideals.”
Adopted shortly after his birth in 1945, Michael explored the complexities of his upbringing in his book, Twice Adopted.
He pursued acting initially, having studied at Arizona State University and later at Los Angeles Valley College. However, he eventually switched gears to radio and writing. His commitment to charity was evident; he served as president of the John Douglas France Alzheimer’s Disease Foundation for three years.
His father, Ronald Reagan, died in 2004 following a prolonged fight with Alzheimer’s disease.
The foundation expressed admiration for Michael’s achievements, referencing a sentiment from Ronald’s autobiography, which highlighted the former president’s pride in his son. “When I read his book, I felt more proud of Mike than ever,” Ronald wrote. “He was happy and at peace with himself.”
Michael’s passing is considered a significant loss, with the foundation stating, “His presence, warmth, and unwavering dedication will be deeply missed at the Reagan Library and far beyond its walls.”
Many conservatives remembered him as an inspiring figure, commending his relentless efforts to propagate his father’s message. A former Wisconsin governor reflected, “He did more than just share stories about his father; he challenged the next generation to embrace the values he championed and be happy warriors in protecting the founding principles of our republic.”
Michael is survived by his wife, Colleen Stearns, along with two children, Cameron and Ashley, grandchildren, and half-brothers, Patty and Ron Reagan Jr.
