Michael Strahan needles Joe Schoen with ex-Giants powering Eagles, Packers

Former Giants great Michael Strahan couldn't resist the urge to criticize current Giants general manager Joe Schon on his FOX show.

The comments were made Sunday as the playoffs continued, with the Eagles defeating the Packers (two teams that included former Giants) 22-10 in the divisional round.

The Giants rested defensive back Xavier McKinney and star running back Saquon Barkley during the offseason, with Barkley's departure making the most headlines.

Since then, Barkley has rushed for more than 2,000 yards for the Eagles this season, leading the team to the NFC East title.

That prompted Strahan to harshly criticize the Giants on national television.

“Thank you, New York Giants, for allowing me.” [McKinney] If you go, you can let go of Berkeley. Well done,” Strahan said.

The decision to let Barkley walk casts a shadow over the 2024 Giants, as Big Blue went 3-14 with a late-season win over the Colts and missed out on the chance to be the No. 1 overall pick in April's NFL Draft. .

While Barkley grabbed the headlines, McKinney had a strong season of his own in Green Bay.

McKinney had a career-high eight interceptions, which ranks second in the NFL.

Despite an ugly season, the Giants retained Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll.

In recent comments to the press, Schoen vowed to rebuild the Giants “the right way.”

“We're going to build this the right way. I have a lot of respect for the ownership and what they believe in,” he said. “We have very good communication with them and they understand where we are and where we are going. There is no 'Hurray Mary.' ”
