Michelle and Barack Obama Were Set to Dine with Rob Reiner and His Spouse on the Night of Their Deaths

Michelle Obama Shares Dinner Plans Before Tragedy

On Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Michelle Obama disclosed that she and former President Obama had dinner plans with Rob Reiner and Michele Reiner the night of the tragic murder. “We were scheduled to meet with them that night,” she explained.

The Reiners were discovered murdered in their Brentwood home on Sunday afternoon. Early reports indicated that both victims suffered knife wounds, and both of their throats appeared to have been cut.

According to reports, Nick, the couple’s 32-year-old son, has been arrested as a suspect and is currently being held without bail.

On Sunday evening, the Obamas were reportedly “heartbroken” upon hearing the shocking news.

Michelle Obama remarked, “We’ve known them for years, and we were supposed to meet that night, but we heard the news last night.” She also referenced the current president’s earlier remarks about Rob Reiner, commending the Reiner family as “decent and courageous people” devoted to family, country, and fairness.

“They weren’t crazy or anything like that. They were always passionate, and during a time lacking courage, they prioritized what truly mattered to them. They genuinely cared about their families and the country, about fairness and equity. That’s the truth. I know them well,” she added.

Rob Reiner, aged 78, was celebrated for directing many iconic films across various genres, including This is Spinal Tap, Stand by Me, Misery, and A Few Good Men.

He married Michele, an actress and producer, in 1989, recalling that their first meeting occurred during the filming of When Harry Met Sally. They shared three children, including their son Nick.

Michele, aged 68, was the owner of the Rainer Wright photo agency and production company.

Reiner was a dedicated Democrat and an outspoken liberal activist who often criticized President Trump, deeming him “mentally unfit” for the presidency. Trump responded to Reiner’s death, suggesting it was connected to “Trump Derangement Syndrome,” a phrase he frequently uses to describe his critics, and claimed that Reiner was “very bad for our country.” He further commented, “He drove people crazy with his obsession with President Donald J. Trump.”
