Michelle Obama Expresses a Sense of Freedom in Latest Podcast
Michelle Obama, the former first lady, recently shared her reflections on the complexities of political life in her latest podcast episode. She mentioned feeling “completely free” for the first time.
In Wednesday’s episode of “A Podcast with Michelle Obama and Craig Robinson,” which she co-hosts with her brothers, Obama urged women to embrace the “freedom” that comes with aging. She stated, “As we get older, we should accept the fact that we have more time. We’re not raising children anymore; they’re raising us. We’re not worried about whether they’re home on time or doing their homework.”
She explained that this stage of her life marks her first experience of true freedom, noting how her choices are no longer directly tied to her husband or his career but are instead about her own needs and desires.
Obama’s remarks were partly in response to listeners who, like a mother named Sharon, had recently moved to a new city and were seeking advice about connecting with others. Obama encouraged Sharon to view her situation as an opportunity for newfound freedom.
“If she thinks that way, wow, she has new freedom. She’s starting over in a new city. There’s so much to learn and see,” Obama remarked. She added that this new chapter is where life really begins: “This is an era where we are free.”
Since her departure from the White House nearly a decade ago, Obama has authored two bestselling books and launched a lifestyle podcast titled “IMO,” which stands for “In My Opinion.” Throughout her journey, she has candidly shared her experiences, from her upbringing to motherhood, marriage, and her evolving professional life.
In a recent interview, she revealed that she is adapting to her life as what she referred to as “Nester of the Sky.” She also addressed rumors about marital issues that arose after she did not attend Trump’s inauguration, affirming, “If I had problems with my husband, everyone would know about it.”
