Former First Lady Michelle Obama announced on Friday that her mother, Marian Robinson, had died at the age of 86.

Michelle Obama said her mother was her “rock star”, adding that she was “always there” whenever she needed her.
“My mother, Marian Robinson, was my rock and always there for me no matter what I needed,” the former first lady wrote in a post on X. “She was always a rock for our entire family and it is with great sadness that I share that she passed away today. I wanted to take a moment to reflect on her incredible life.”

She studied to be a teacher before taking up secretarial work.
Robinson eventually met and married Fraser Robinson, and the couple had two children, Craig and Michelle.
“We will all miss her greatly and wish she were here to give us some perspective and heal our heavy hearts with her laughter and wisdom,” the joint statement added.
