Long Live the Loofah Queen!

Michelle Yeoh earned herself the playful title of “Loofah Queen” at the New York premiere of *Wicked: For Good* on Monday, instantly creating a buzz online as she dazzled in a bright yellow tulle gown.

The 63-year-old Oscar winner donned a strapless ball gown designed by Sarah Burton for Givenchy, marking the finale of the designer’s first fall 2025 collection. This show-stopping piece was initially revealed during Paris Fashion Week back in March.

Reactions on social media to her vibrant look were quite mixed. While some fans embraced the bold fashion choice, celebrating the return of “camp,” others humorously likened it to a loofah or even a cupcake.

“Camp is really back,” one user on X declared, while another joked, “Me while mopping.” On Instagram, reactions varied from admiration to lighthearted banter. One commenter noted, “Joan Rivers would have loved this,” while another affectionately dubbed her “my neon loofah queen.” There was even love for the color itself, with a fan saying, “I love bright yellow… no matter what!” Still, others made jokes like, “27 munchkins came out of her dress.”

Accessorizing her gown, Yeoh wore a custom Richard Mille RM07-02 watch, likely fetching over a million dollars if sold, and went for the glam with a necklace from Mikimoto, featuring pearls nestled between diamond-encrusted rose petals.

Interestingly, this premiere was just the last stop on the *Wicked: For Good* press tour, following earlier events in cities like London, Paris, Singapore, and Sao Paulo.

Yeoh will portray the villainous Madame Morrible in the upcoming film, set to hit theaters on November 21st. One Instagram post even captured her whimsical pre-premiere mindset, as she humorously reflected, “I was trying not to do anything extra…and then I just happened to show up like Tinkerbell after a pixie dust explosion.”

Her striking outfit at this premiere stood out, especially when compared to her other looks throughout the tour, which included a dramatic honeycomb design at the Singapore premiere and a classy custom velvet ensemble in London—all paired with Mikimoto jewels.

It’s fascinating how fashion can spark such a range of responses. But that’s all part of the fun, isn’t it? After all, it’s not every day you see someone truly embrace bold color and statement-making silhouettes.
