A Michigan judge tried to have Walmart shoplifters offer free car washes for their own sentence, but the plan was rejected by senior jurists.
Judge Jeffrey Crozier, who was elected to Genesee County's 67th District Court in January, said he would ask for as many as 100 people to shoplift to wash his car for free by catching it on stealing from a local Walmart, and would require others to stop stealing from the retail giant.
Clothier said the “Walmart Wash” plan he came up with last month was supported by the manager at Walmart in Grand Blanc Township. Arkansas' Walmart headquarters supported the idea, but said car washes could not be offered in store property, so the judge believed they could find an alternative location for the car wash they wanted to do in the spring.

“I don't think everyone who steals is a bad person. Sometimes people just get depressed about their luck,” Clothes told the Associated Press at the time. “But if you break the law, there will be consequences.”
“If you see someone you know, I think it's humiliating to wash a car,” he said. “I'll wash the car with them.”
However, Supreme Court Justice William Crawford II has now rejected the clothing and said junior jurists should first seek approval from him and other court officials.

“This is especially true if the proposed alternative punishment deviates from the usual accepted method,” Crawford said in a statement Friday, adding that “the 'Walmart Wash' does not occur as reported.”
Clothier says he is upset with Crawford's ruling, but he still wants to come up with a new, unusual form of punishment for shoplifters.
“I'm frustrated,” Crossyear said. “I'm still trying to come up with creative ways to solve this problem.”

“I committed 37 new Walmart theft crimes two days ago. Last month, it's well over 100,” he added.
Clothier said 20 to 30 judges across the state heard about the car wash he plans to join the shoplifters.
The judge said he is currently ordering other types of community services in a Walmart shoplifting case instead of a car wash.
