Michigan man shoots and kills a dad after his daughter touched shooter’s mulch at his home, police say

A Michigan man was arrested. Murder and firearms offences He allegedly shot and killed his father following an argument over mulch.

Investigators say 47-year-old Devereaux Christopher Johnson got into an argument with 35-year-old Nathan Morris just before noon Saturday outside Johnson’s home in Canton Township.

“Everyone is telling their wives and kids to be careful.”

Johnson reportedly began threatening Morris and his family after Morris’ daughter touched mulch and wood debris at Johnson’s home.

Canton County Police Department Found Morris was found lying in the street with gunfire and was taken to a hospital where he later died.

Johnson barricaded himself inside the home after police arrived, but later came outside and was taken into police custody.

Police said the suspect has a long criminal history dating back to the 1990s, including assaults on neighbours and police officers, as well as sexual offences.

“This was a senseless act of violence against the victim,” Canton Police Chief Chad Baugh said in a statement. “The Canton Police Department offers its deepest condolences to the victim’s family and to neighbors who may have witnessed this tragic incident.”

Neighbors told WXYZ-TV that Johnson had become more violent and erratic in recent weeks.

“Everyone is telling their wives and kids to be careful, avoid eye contact and not to cross alone,” said Vishu Badari.
