A Michigan mother heroically tried to save her 2-year-old daughter’s life at a drag racing event on Sunday, but was killed when she was hit by an out-of-control car.
Police said Kaydee Price, 33, was in the crowd with her family when her 1980 Jeep CJ lost control, went off the race course and crashed into another vehicle.
The other vehicle, which had been stationary at the time of the collision, struck Price, just seconds after she had shoved her daughter to safety.
The mayhem unfolded at Silver Lake State Park sand dunes in western Oceana County, about 170 miles northwest of Detroit. MLive.com reported..
Several people, including Silver Lake State Park rangers, rushed to offer Price emergency medical treatment but were ultimately unable to save her.
Price was pronounced dead shortly after the attack, just before midday.
Police said the mother’s quick thinking helped the daughter avoid “serious or worse injury.”
“Please keep the Price family in your prayers,” the Oceana County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.
The Jeep driver has been identified as a 64-year-old man from Michigan, whose name is not being released at this time due to the ongoing investigation.
Two off-road drivers who took part in Sunday’s race have since spoken out in detail about the horrific incident.
“I’ve been coming here a long time” Bryce Straubel He told Wood“It was probably one of the most brutal accidents I’ve ever seen.”
“It’s heartbreaking,” Straubel added. “People are here to have a good time and this mother lost her life. She pushed her daughter away to help her. It’s just hard to hear. It’s really hard.”
Silver Lake State Park is a 3,000-acre park that stretches along the shores of Lake Michigan and includes about 2,000 acres of sand dunes.
