Michigan president speaks to students following Sherrone Moore’s dismissal

University of Michigan Addresses Sherone Moore Controversy

Domenico Grasso, the interim president of the University of Michigan, reached out to students on Thursday in light of the recent situation involving former football coach Sherone Moore. In his communication, he urged anyone with information regarding the matter to step forward.

Grasso stated, “Dear Students, earlier this week, the Office of Intercollegiate Athletics terminated head football coach Sherone Moore for engaging in an inappropriate relationship with an employee, breaching university policy. His employment was ended immediately as soon as the investigation into his conduct was made public on Wednesday.”

The message also expressed deep disappointment, saying, “This behavior by the University of Michigan is completely unacceptable. I have maintained close contact with the Board of Trustees and am committed to taking the right steps moving forward. This breach of trust by Coach Moore has affected many in our community, especially those directly involved.”

Though the situation is troubling, Grasso emphasized the university’s commitment to fostering a culture of respect and accountability. He reassured students that the investigation would continue to uncover all facts. “Our community has put in a lot of effort in recent years to create a safer environment,” he noted, indicating the need to sustain that momentum.

Moore was dismissed on Wednesday after credible evidence of the alleged relationship came to light. Reports later revealed that he was taken into custody and is scheduled for arraignment on Friday. According to Pittsfield police, the incident involved an assault investigation, which does not appear to be random, and one suspect is currently in custody.

Moore’s background includes being married since 2015 and having three daughters with his wife. In the wake of this controversy, Francis Xavier “Biff” Poggi has been appointed as the interim head coach and will lead the team in the upcoming Citrus Bowl against Texas on December 31.

As for the ongoing legal situation, authorities stated that Moore remains in custody while investigations proceed. They have indicated that further information regarding potential charges will be released soon.
