Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson, a Democrat, said she expected the state's election results to be certified the day after the Nov. 5 general election.
“In 2020, we knew the results of the highest turnout election in Michigan history within 24 hours of polls closing. Unofficial results were completed by 8 p.m. Wednesday, so we're tracking them again this year. We're here,” Benson said Sunday on CBS News' “Face the Nation.”
Benson said he is optimistic that this year's results could come back even faster because the state has more options than ever to process ballots.
“That said, we always prioritize accuracy and security over efficiency,” she said.
Benson said Michigan voters are excited to vote in this election. More than 1 million people have already voted in the state, and more than 2 million have requested absentee ballots.
She said she would certify the presidential election results without hesitation. — No matter who wins. Former President Trump is currently leading Vice President Harris. 0.4 percent in Michigan, The Hill/Decision Desk Headquarters reports.
