What was the scandal?
When the Wolverines' sign-stealing scandal came to light, everyone across the college football world rallied against the Wolverines. And in a true stroke of genius, they flipped the script with the slogan “Michigan vs. Everybody” and what originally started as a simple t-shirt transitioned into a national championship. Frankly, it's like a scene from a movie.
But instead, this is real life. This isn't Hollywood, this is literal. The Wolverines really had to fight everyone, including the NCAA, the Big Ten Conference, and the No. 2 team in the nation (Washington Huskies) to get to the promised land. Whether it was fan criticism, an investigation, or Jim Harbaugh's six-game suspension, even the mighty Alabama Crimson Tide got involved. All of that and Michigan State still won the national title.
It's a really great story. (Related: Miami Hurricanes top FCS QB Reese Poffenberger enters transfer portal. Can he get them back on track?)
The fairytale story came to an end on Monday night, with No. 1 Michigan State defeating No. 2 Washington State, 34-13. Win first national championship since 1997. From the start, it was a glorious night for the Wolverines, who never trailed by a second against the Huskies.
Oh, and on top of that, the University of Michigan finished an undefeated season at 15-0.
It's the kind of legendary college football story you often see in movies and documentaries.
can't believe it.
