Microsoft raises Xbox prices due to tariffs following PlayStation hike

Microsoft's Xbox is hiking prices for gaming consoles, controllers, first-party titles and other accessories following similar moves by competitors due to tariffs affecting Global Supply Chains.

in Blog post On Thursday, Xbox said it would raise prices for products in the US, Europe, Australia and the UK.

The more powerful Xbox Series X consoles will be sold in the US for around $600, an increase of $100.

The move comes weeks after PlayStation Maker Sony increased the price of PlayStation 5 consoles in various markets, indicating that console manufacturers are preparing for increased manufacturing costs due to tariffs.

The PlayStation 5 Pro console costs around $700 in the US.

Game consoles are expected to be the biggest driver of the video game industry's growth this year, and Nintendo is preparing to launch its long-awaited Switch 2 in June.

However, the enormous taxation imposed by the Trump administration on major manufacturing hubs such as Japan, China and Vietnam has led to a surge in prices.

Some analysts warn that these tariffs could hinder industry growth as potential economic recession and increased growth could lead to consumers reducing discretionary spending.

Nintendo resumed pre-orders for Switch 2 later last month after initially delaying them in the US due to uncertainty in the tariffs.

Following a similar pricing for Nintendo's Mario Kart World, Xbox could raise the price of certain first-party games to around $80, potentially setting a new industry standard as development costs rise.
