Teacher Charged with Sexual Abuse of Student
A middle school teacher has been accused of grooming and sexually abusing a teenage student who viewed her as a “mother figure.” Police report that Alisha Marie George, 40, a teacher and volleyball coach at Hawthorne Academy in West Jordan, Utah, began her inappropriate relationship with the boy when he was just 12 years old.
Now 15, the victim described George as a “monster,” stating, “At a time in my life when I needed someone the most, she stepped up, but she took advantage of him.” This complaint was filed on Thursday.
The boy met George in 2023 during his seventh-grade year while participating in volleyball. George’s support made her a significant figure in his life, particularly when he was 13 and dealing with challenges at home.
However, things took a dark turn during Christmas break of that year. After a movie outing with other teachers and students, George allegedly drove him home and engaged in sexual acts with him in her car.
It is reported that George only ceased her actions when the boy’s mother and her friend unexpectedly entered the garage. Following this incident, the abuse intensified, reportedly including oral sex.
According to the indictment, many incidents occurred at the boy’s home while George purportedly helped his mother recover from surgery.
George allegedly warned the boy not to disclose their secret relationship. He expressed feeling trapped, fearing George’s response if she saw him interacting with other girls at school.
The last recorded sexual encounter between them reportedly happened in July 2024, again in George’s vehicle. After a failed communication attempt on his birthday later that year, he decided to block her on social media.
The boy told authorities he felt that George was his first sexual experience.
Facing a total of 22 charges, George’s allegations include four counts of forcible sodomy and one count of attempted rape, both first-degree felonies. There are also multiple counts of forcible sexual abuse, plus charges related to the distribution of pornographic material and unlawful kissing of a minor.
In the wake of her arrest, additional students have come forward, recounting similar experiences or reporting witnessing inappropriate behavior from George. Officials suggest that more charges might be filed.
Currently, George is being held in the Salt Lake County Jail without bail and is set to appear in court on December 9th.
