A former middle school teacher from New Jersey was apprehended on Thursday, facing allegations of having a sexual relationship with one of her students.
Ashley Fisler, 36, from Washington Township in Gloucester County, faces multiple charges—six counts of first-degree sexual assault against a minor, one count of second-degree sexual assault that endangers a child’s welfare, and one count of second-degree official misconduct.
The serious nature of these charges puts her at risk of significant prison time; first-degree charges can lead to a maximum of 20 years, while second-degree charges can result in up to 10 years.
Fisler’s arrest was prompted by the victim, now an adult, who reported the incidents to law enforcement earlier this year. At the time of the alleged relationship, the victim was a student in her class.
According to reports, Fisler is believed to have engaged in this relationship with the student in 2021 while teaching at Orchard Valley Middle School.
The victim informed police about several sexual encounters that occurred both in Fisler’s car and within the confines of the classroom. Furthermore, investigators uncovered text messages exchanged between Fisler and the victim, which purportedly corroborate the sexual nature of their relationship.
Fisler had been a social studies teacher in the Washington Township School District from 2014 until June 2023, as outlined in her online resume. Currently, district officials have stated that she is not employed as a teacher within Washington Township or any other district.
