An immigrant is among several Spanish-speaking men charged with beating, threatening to torture and robbing a woman in Dallas, Texas, last month.
Manuel Hernandez Hernandez, a 28-year-old immigrant, is the only suspect so far arrested by Colleyville police and charged with aggravated theft in connection with the violent home invasion.
Police said the other robbers, all Spanish speakers, remain at large.
On the night of Sept. 21, the woman said she parked her car at her home in the affluent Dallas community near Highland Park, got out of her car, and noticed four men approaching her garage. . One of the men pointed a gun at her and forced her to the ground.
The woman said the gunman hit her in the head multiple times with a gun, then dragged her into her home and tied her up with clothes from her bedroom. The woman said the robbers spoke only Spanish and used Google Translate to threaten her.
Among the threats was that the men would cut off her fingers one by one if she did not tell her where the safe was in the house. According to the woman, the men let her go to the bathroom in her home and waited for about 10 minutes before leaving.
The robbers left with $75,000 in cash, a Gucci wallet, the woman's cell phone and loose change. When police arrived on scene, officers said the residence had been ransacked.
Hernandez-Hernandez was arrested on September 19th on unrelated charges, but was released on September 20th, the day before the robbery. On September 30, Colleyville Police arrested Hernandez-Hernandez on suspicion of robbery.
Hernandez-Hernandez remains in the Dallas County Jail. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has him in custody and has requested that he be taken into custody should he be released at any time.
