Miguel Rojas shares his thoughts after the Dodgers' 2025 World Series victory

Every Player’s Worth Beyond the Numbers

In today’s baseball world, everything seems to revolve around data—spreadsheets, analytics, and scouting reports all in various colors. Yet, there are certain players whose true value isn’t encapsulated in numbers.

Take Miguel Rojas of the Dodgers, for instance. He’s shown a unique talent for thriving where the statistics don’t fully capture his abilities. Recently, he reminded everyone of this on Instagram, echoing sentiments shared by ESPN’s Jeff Passan.

A clip featuring a conversation between Dodgers manager Dave Roberts and Blue Jays manager John Schneider shed light on a particularly memorable Game 7 of the 2025 World Series.

Schneider didn’t hold back when he mentioned how the data heavily favored Blue Jays pitcher Jeff Hoffman against Rojas. “I can tell you this, and I mean no offense to anyone, but Hoffman vs. Rojas was the best on this sheet,” Schneider remarked. “Some of our plans just didn’t pan out as we hoped. It wasn’t a clear-cut win, but it seemed to lean that way.”

Yet, there’s an important point to consider. In baseball, it’s not always about what looks best on paper or in the statistics.

The unexpected result? Rojas hitting a game-tying home run in the ninth inning with the Dodgers facing defeat. This moment marks the first time in MLB history that such a home run was hit to tie a Game 7 in the World Series.

Upon seeing the clip shared on Instagram, Rojas seized the moment. “Yes, the story of my life,” he quipped. “I was red on every manager’s card… cheer me up. Hearts and balls don’t count in analysis.”

Indeed, Rojas stands as a reminder of the limitations of analytics in modern baseball, proudly wearing that “red” label on opposing teams’ reports like a badge of honor.
