Mikaela Shiffrin Wins Gold in Olympic Slalom

Mikaela Shiffrin clinched the gold medal in the women’s alpine ski slalom at the Winter Olympics on Wednesday. As she prepared for her run, her coach urged her to “rip this,” and she certainly did.

Shiffrin finished with a total time of 1:39.10, clocking 47.13 seconds in the first run and 51.97 seconds in the second. This impressive performance pushed her to the top spot, contributing to the U.S. team’s increasing medal count.

It’s worth noting that despite the disappointing results at the 2022 Beijing Games, where she didn’t make the podium, Shiffrin held her composure and delivered a remarkable race this time around. However, she had a tense wait as her two competitors ahead failed to complete the course.

In another event, American Jake Canter secured a bronze medal in men’s snowboard slopestyle.

Shiffrin made strategic moves throughout the course, gaining valuable time and feeling a mix of disbelief and joy as she realized the magnitude of her achievement.

Only a short time ago, she faced an unexpected setback at the last Olympics, despite being celebrated as one of the all-time greats in the sport. Now, she has added a third gold medal to her collection, making her the second skier in Olympic history to win gold in this event twice.

Camille Last from Switzerland took home the silver medal, while Anna Larsson Sweyn of Sweden earned bronze.
