Without Draymond Green’s frequent controversies, the NBA playoffs almost feel incomplete.
Broadcasters Doris Burke and Mike Breen have voiced their thoughts, saying Green adds a unique element to the games.
His latest incident took place during Game 6 of the Western Conference Playoff Series against the Houston Rockets on Friday night.
Burke expressed concern about Green’s behavior as he continued to argue with officials even amidst crucial moments.
“What have we observed about Draymond Green lately?” she questioned on air while replaying a highlight. “It certainly seems like he’s walking that line again, doesn’t it?”
Then Breen chimed in.
“Especially in a game this significant,” he noted. “I won’t dispute that he’s one of the smartest defenders of all time. His competitive drive has been essential to their four championship wins. Yet, he keeps crossing that line, and it’s detrimental—not just to him, but to the entire team.”
This latest drama follows Green’s earlier claim about being unfairly judged for his conduct, not solely his gameplay.
Burke reiterated, “How many players get this sort of leeway and still choose to engage in debate?”
Breen continued to critique him.
“I really called out to him at that moment,” he admitted, while acknowledging Green’s talent. “The referee seems to give players a bit more space here, both in this and previous playoff games.”
This led Burke to reflect on the complexities of Green’s career.
“He embodies both strength and vulnerability,” she remarked. “He’s straddling that line, but it really points to something peculiar. I believe there’s a double standard regarding how Green is treated,” she concluded.
Game 7 is set for Sunday night in Houston.
