Knicks Prepare for Preseason Challenges
Coach Mike Brown is planning to give his starters more playing time in the upcoming game against the Timberwolves. This adjustment aims to prepare them better for the regular season opener against the Cavaliers on October 22nd. In the previous two games in Abu Dhabi, none of the Knicks’ starters played over 18 minutes, with most logging around 17 minutes.
Mitchell Robinson recorded 18 and 13 minutes respectively in the first two games. Additionally, Pacom Dadiette stepped in for OG Anunoby, who sat out due to an injury in the first exhibition against the 76ers, finishing with 15 minutes.
Jalen Branson, after practice in Tarrytown, expressed confidence: “The season is around the corner, and we feel prepared. We keep working and focusing. Sure, these aren’t regular-season games, but everything we do contributes.”
As they increase their playing time, the Knicks will also continue adapting to Brown’s new system. Branson noted, “The possibilities are expanding.” Despite winning both preseason games, he acknowledged the necessity for ongoing improvement.
The Knicks’ schedule includes two more preseason matchups before the season begins—against the Wizards on Monday and the Hornets on the 17th.
“Our teamwork is definitely progressing. We’ve got a long road ahead, but we’re building a solid foundation,” Branson added.
Meanwhile, Josh Hart missed practice after a mid-game exit in the preseason opener, and Brown mentioned he still hasn’t returned to practice. Although the team is dealing with a couple of injuries, including Anunoby’s sprain, Brown didn’t seem overly worried about these setbacks.
“That’s why we have a full roster. Injuries happen, and we trust our guys to step up,” Brown stated, emphasizing the importance of every player staying mentally prepared for their moment on the court.
Branson and Malcolm Brogdon shared their struggle with jet lag from their recent trip to Abu Dhabi but appreciated the experience. Branson said, “We got to bond as a team in a unique setting, like having dinner in the desert, exploring their culture. It’s not every day you get to do that.”
