Mike Collins launches organization across 159 counties for his Senate campaign in Georgia

Rep. Mike Collins’ Grassroots Strategy in Georgia Senate Race

Rep. Mike Collins from Georgia is ramping up his campaign efforts by mobilizing grassroots organizations throughout all 159 counties in Georgia, as he seeks to secure the Republican nomination for the Senate against Senator John Ossoff.

His campaign, which shared details with The Hill, has assembled 413 county captains across the state, with the goal of enhancing voter turnout. This kind of county-level mobilization has proven effective for Republicans in the past, notably during the re-election campaigns of President Trump and Georgia Governor Brian Kemp.

A press release from Collins’ campaign highlighted the urgency of this initiative, describing a two-week timeframe for Republicans to become competitive, calling it “proof of Collins’ message, genuine approach, and his team’s experience in the state.”

The campaign boasts leaders who have previously worked in successful county-level mobilization efforts for both Trump and Kemp.

Among the notable supporters backing Collins are state Senator Rick Williams, state Representative Matthew Gunville, Representative Clint Crowe, and Senate Majority Leader Jason Anabitalte. Some of these names have already been officially recognized as endorsers of Collins.

Collins is in contention with Rep. Buddy Carter and former football coach Derek Dooley, the latter seen as the candidate favored by Kemp for the Republican nomination to face Ossoff next year.

While Collins has gathered some backing from state legislative figures, including Kemp’s supporters and various congressional members, Carter currently holds a financial edge with a substantial war chest. Carter reported having $4 million in cash at the end of the last quarter, compared to Collins’ $1 million, bolstered by a $2 million personal loan he used for his campaign.

Dooley benefits from his close ties to Kemp’s political network, which has drawn heavy criticism from both Collins and Carter since his announcement, setting the stage for a fiercely competitive primary.
