Band Tenth Avenue North Returns After Break

Mike Donehey, the lead vocalist of the Christian band Tenth Avenue North, shared insights about the band’s comeback. After an attempted breakup two decades earlier during their 2020 farewell tour, their plans were unexpectedly interrupted by the Covid-19 pandemic. Donehey, who started the band with longtime drummer Jason Jamison in 2000, described that period as a “wild moment,” reflecting on the evolving landscape of Christian music.

“Subbattle, surrender, surrender. Trust, trust, trust,” he expressed. “If you want to understand my struggles or lessons, look at the songs I’ve released. They tell you what’s happening in my mind.”

During their hiatus, Donehey worked on two EPs, launched podcasts, wrote and published books, and toured as a solo artist. In 2024, he reunited with a new set of talented musicians.

“Every member of my current band is a producer in their own right,” Donehey mentioned, referring to Thomas Ewing (guitar), Monti Rivera (keyboards, bass), and Paiden Hillard (drums). “Each one has toured with major artists. They’re incredibly skilled. While I usually don’t trust easily, I’ve never played this well with a group of musicians.”

In May, Tenth Avenue North released their ninth album, titled “Title.” This marks their first project following a break.

“Learning to trust him is constant,” Donehey wrote in a recent Instagram post. “We haven’t fully learned to trust God, but we continue to learn. That’s what faith is about. New challenges and sufferings arise daily, but learning to surrender and trust is key to our journey with our Savior.”

The band’s social media also features a clip from the single “Running With You In the Dark.” In it, Donehey sings about the journey of trust and companionship amidst uncertainty.

“But I learn to trust, I learn to trust you
Learn to trust, learn to trust you
Learn to trust, learn to trust your heart,” he reflects.

The journey back together is full of hope and new beginnings as they navigate their path forward.
