Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee (R) said the media was “quick to” attack President Biden after his debate performance.
Huckaby Participated Speaking on NewsNation’s “On Balance with Leland Vittert” on Friday, he said it’s hard to say how long Biden’s performance will dominate the news cycle.
“I think the media has to accept some responsibility for the big lie that they’ve been telling us for months now, which is that Joe is on top of his game, he’s the sharpest he’s ever been, he’s just fantastic,” Huckabee said.
Huckabee said Biden’s performance in Thursday’s debate, which was broadcast live on CNN, “stunned the media” and argued that Biden, 81, was forced to acknowledge that he was not as ready to serve another term as previously thought.
Biden’s shaky debate performance caused panic among Democrats, with multiple media outlets calling on Friday for Biden to step aside and for someone else to take on former President Trump.
Vittato played Huckabee a clip of the debate in which Biden accused Trump of sleeping with a porn star. Biden was convicted in May of falsifying business documents to hide payments to porn stars before the 2016 election.
It was a rare moment after Biden attacked Trump onstage and Trump barely responded, countering Democrats’ hopes for an explosive performance.
Huckabee said his staff would not have needed to tell Trump to restrain himself because Trump “watched seven weeks of the trial.”
“He didn’t jump over the table and grab Judge Marchan by the throat, although I’m sure he was tempted to do that,” he said. “So I think it was good preparation and he realized that he didn’t have to do anything to beat Joe Biden other than get Joe to talk.”
“He didn’t take Joe’s bait, as everyone thought he would. I didn’t take it, and he didn’t take it,” he concluded.
