Trump Nominated for Nobel Peace Prize by Israeli and U.S. Parliamentary Leaders
Israeli Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana and House Speaker Mike Johnson have made their initial push to nominate former President Donald J. Trump for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize, stating that “no one is more deserving” of the honor and that he has significantly contributed to global peace over the last year.
During a meeting in Parliament, Johnson welcomed Ohana to discuss the nomination and sign a formal letter to the Norwegian Nobel Committee. This meeting was also attended by House Minority Leader Steve Scalise, emphasizing bipartisan support for the initiative.
In a press release, Johnson emphasized that Trump has restored the American principle of “peace through strength,” arguing that his efforts have “ended conflict and promoted order” globally. Ohana supported this view, asserting that Trump has done more for peace in the past year than any other leader and deserves recognition for his achievements, which have benefited lives worldwide, including in Israel.
A joint letter sent to the Nobel Committee presented Trump as an “extraordinary leader” whose peace pursuits have altered the world. It noted that Congressional leaders stood united, for the first time, in support of his nomination.
The letter highlighted eight diplomatic accomplishments attributed to Trump, including the Abraham Accords, ceasefires between India and Pakistan, and agreements focused on peace in various regions such as Cambodia, Azerbaijan, and Armenia. The authors praised Trump’s “excellent statesmanship” and courage in confronting long-standing conflicts.
They suggested that Trump’s mediation has “changed the world” by resolving violent disputes across several territories and facilitating the return of hostages from Hamas as part of a broader peace framework. Johnson referred to this accomplishment as a “historic moment” worthy of global acknowledgment.
The authors contend that based on the Nobel Prize’s foundational goals, Trump has done the most to promote peace in 2025. They are now working to gather further support for the nomination ahead of the January 31, 2026 deadline.
This campaign is an extension of prior efforts announced in mid-October, where Israeli leaders explicitly told Trump of their intent to collaborate with legislative bodies worldwide in support of his candidacy, underscoring his status as a “president of peace.”
In earlier appeals to the Nobel Committee, families of Israeli hostages emphasized the urgency of granting Trump the award, stating that his diplomacy achieved what many considered impossible. Subsequent appeals came from international figures who endorsed Trump’s contributions to peace and claimed that if he didn’t receive the award, “no one else deserves it.” These letters coincided with the committee’s decision timeline.
Following a ceasefire agreement, all remaining hostages in Gaza were repatriated, completing an initial stage of the peace process. The next phase of Trump’s peace plan is set to be discussed in a meeting scheduled for December 29.
However, on October 10, the Nobel Committee awarded the 2025 Peace Prize to Venezuelan opposition leader María Colina Machado, a decision perceived in Israel as a slight to Trump’s efforts. Subsequently, an Israeli Prize winner nominated Trump for his contributions to society, highlighting his determination, courage, and innovative leadership in fostering regional partnerships and securing peace.
Despite Machado’s recognition for her work in restoring democracy in Venezuela, Johnson and Ohana see the upcoming year as an opportunity for re-evaluating Trump’s qualifications for the Nobel Prize, emphasizing his recent achievements in promoting peace and fraternity among nations.
Their goal is to unify various endorsements into a coherent campaign for Trump, reflecting sincere respect for his role in advancing peace. They hope to present a strong case to the Nobel Committee by focusing on substantive actions that align with its mission to recognize significant contributions to global peace.
In a recent event, FIFA President Gianni Infantino honored Trump with the inaugural FIFA Peace Prize, recognizing his global efforts in promoting peace. Trump expressed that this acknowledgment, although significant, is overshadowed by the lives saved through his diplomacy.
