Mike Johnson Nixes Biden’s $24 Billion Aid Request for Ukraine

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana) said Wednesday that there should be no further aid to Ukraine ahead of President-elect Donald Trump's inauguration.

Johnson said the decision on additional aid to Ukraine should be left to Trump when he takes office again in January.

“As we predicted, and as we told you weeks before the election, if… donald trump “If the president is elected, the dynamics of Russia's war against Ukraine will change, and we're seeing that happen,” Louisiana's House Republican leader told a press conference with House Republican leaders. He added that Trump's election victory would change the dynamics of the protracted conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

“So this is not the place for that.” joe biden To make that decision now, we have a newly elected president and we will wait and follow the instructions of the new commander-in-chief, so we do not expect the Ukraine funds to be raised right now.” continued Mr. Johnson.

President Biden has requested $8 billion in security assistance to Ukraine, including providing military equipment to the country and funding training for its military. An additional $16 billion was requested from the Department of Defense (DOD) to send more supplies to Ukraine.

In September, even before taking office, President Trump said that as president-elect he would aim to end the conflict between Ukraine and Russia.

I want Russia to reconcile with Ukraine and stop this. Millions more people have been killed than you are reading about. But I want to get it done before I take office, I want to get it done as the next president, because it has to be resolved — too many people have died, too many cities are now in rubble. It has turned into a Culture is being destroyed. It has to be done, and I'll get it done. There would have been no October 7th, there would have been no Russian attack on Ukraine, there would have been no inflation. All this inflation is hurting people badly. There would have been no such horrific withdrawal – we were coming out of Afghanistan with dignity and strength – and it was the most embarrassing moment in our nation's history. And frankly, without it Russia would never have entered Ukraine. They look at it and say, “This country is no longer run by Trump. This country is run by stupid people.”

In late November, Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskiy said that while Ukraine would seek to “diplomatically” retake Russian-controlled areas, it would be willing to cooperate with Russia if protection under the “NATO umbrella” was guaranteed. He said the “hot war” could end.
