Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo spoke out Wednesday about President Biden’s mental acuity and age following reports that raised questions about Biden’s competency, saying he takes no pleasure in saying the president can’t effectively carry out his duties.
Pompeo He said On Wednesday, Fox News is set to discuss a report released by The Wall Street Journal that is based on interviews with people who work behind closed doors with Biden.
“It is clear not only from his private conversations but also from his public speeches that President Biden can no longer fulfill his duties as commander in chief to keep America safe. He cannot keep up with a teleprompter – a fundamental skill that every leader of the free world should possess,” Pompeo said.
“You see it in the way the president interacts with people. There are moments when he seems older and less capable,” he continued. “I expect the president to have the skills and the intellect to actually take action on behalf of America. And I think we can all see that for ourselves. We don’t have to rely on The Wall Street Journal or anybody else to see that there is this real risk.”
The Trump administration’s former secretary of state warned that Biden’s capabilities send a message to both America’s allies and foes.
“I’ve been traveling around the world for the last few weeks, and world leaders know this. They know that when they interact with President Biden, he is completely out of touch with conversation,” he said.
Pompeo warned that Biden’s mental state posed “significant risks” to the US when it comes to China, North Korea, Russia and Hamas in the Gaza Strip. Each foreign adversary may see now as a golden opportunity to gain an advantage over the US, he said.
“Not only will our allies see this, and I think many of them are already seeing it, but our adversaries will sense it as well,” Pompeo said.
White House officials and Biden allies slammed the report, pointing to comments by Republican lawmakers praising Biden’s mental acuity.
The Wall Street Journal report is the latest to raise questions about Biden’s age, a top concern for voters heading into the November election. At 81, the president will be 86 at the end of his next term, nearly four years older than his likely opponent, former President Donald Trump.
