Mike Tyson talks about dark side of himself that must come out in Jake Paul fight: ‘That guy haunts me’

The bout between boxing legend Mike Tyson and Jake Paul has been postponed, but the 58-year-old is still scheduled to face the YouTuber-turned-boxer on November 15 at AT&T Stadium.

Tyson appeared on Paul’s brother Logan Paul’s podcast and spoke about a side of himself that he’s forced to show during his fights, but never likes to see.

Tyson said the “killer” side of him that usually ends up in handcuffs will come out in the ring.

“Yeah, it will happen, but I’ve learned from experience that any time that tough guy, Mike Tyson, shows up when he doesn’t have to, I’m in handcuffs,” Tyson told Impulsive.

“So I’m always careful when that guy comes out. Every time he’s drinking or getting ready to fight, he ends up in handcuffs.”

Tyson went into more detail about his dark side.

“Unfortunately, I have to fight and become that guy,” he explained. “I wish I could stop that guy. That guy is haunting me. I wish I could stop that guy. I wish that guy was dead, but he’s here to stay.”

Boxing Hall of Fame broadcaster says celebrity fights “literally do nothing” for boxing

Tyson explained in a later interview that his way of keeping “the guy” in check was by loving his kids and family. The former heavyweight champion also spoke about how cannabis has helped him immensely since retiring from boxing.

Tyson has had run-ins with the law, including incidents involving being under the influence and possessing drugs.

In one incident in December 2006, he was arrested in Scottsdale, Ariz., on charges of DUI and felony drug possession. In September 2007, he pleaded guilty to cocaine possession and DUI.

He was sentenced to 24 hours of jail time, three years’ probation and performed 360 hours of community service.

Tyson went on to say that a killer version of himself “could easily come back,” but he sees Paul as a killer, and that’s what he needs in the ring.

“That’s how I see him,” Tyson said of his future opponent.

Tyson, who was at Fanatics Fest with Paul on Sunday to hold a press conference for the highly-anticipated Netflix bout, was forced to postpone the fight, originally scheduled for July, due to ulcer issues.
