A reporter finally asked, “You mentioned that you’ve been in counseling this offseason. I wanted to follow up and learn what lessons you drew from that and how you managed to balance that personal commitment while preparing for the upcoming season.”
It was a moment of potential honesty.
Vrabel opened up about how the sessions had influenced his relationships with family, but he quickly shifted gears. He began discussing the importance of improving team dynamics and individual performance.
“I think we’re always looking to enhance what we do,” he stated, emphasizing a focus on improvement, both personally and as a team. “This journey ahead is going to differ greatly from last year, and we must prepare for that.”
He touched on the offensive line’s collaboration, highlighting the need for better execution in their blocking schemes. But, as he discussed strategies and teamwork, the personal insights that might have connected the two conversations seemed to slip away. It almost felt like the original question was left hanging.
This doesn’t necessarily paint Vrabel in a negative light, but it raises questions about whether he’s sidestepping difficult discussions or simply focusing on football.
