Waltz Issues Warning to Putin Amid NATO Tensions

U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, Mike Waltz, issued a firm warning to Russian President Vladimir Putin, stating that former President Trump is advocating for the downing of intruding Russian aircraft that do not pose a real threat. Waltz emphasized that the Iranians learned important lessons about Trump’s tactics, which often involve a mix of incentives and repercussions. This sentiment was conveyed to the Russian leader during recent discussions.

The former Florida congressman was speaking with Brian Kilmeade following a Trump proposal during his meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in New York City, coinciding with the UN General Assembly session. A reporter had posed a question about whether NATO countries should shoot down Russian aircraft entering their airspace, to which Trump responded affirmatively.

Waltz Highlights Russian Airspace Violations

Waltz referred to Trump’s remarks as “common sense,” drawing attention to recent airspace violations by Russia that were reported by Romania, Estonia, and Poland. Since becoming president in January, Trump has focused on resolving the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, promoting negotiations for peace.

When queried about the possibility of lifting restrictions on U.S. weapons supplied to Ukraine, Waltz reiterated the president’s commitment to doing whatever is necessary to achieve peace, even if it requires adjusting strategies.

This week, Trump expressed confidence that with support from European allies and NATO, Ukraine can regain its lost territories. Zelensky shared his optimism, stating that he felt reassured by Trump’s pledge of support until the conflict concludes.
